A fan-art personal character visual-update project. I wanted to look at sequel characters and how they would look continuing their character progression after Episode IX. I chose Rey as a tester for this and wanted to design a more mature, Jedi-themed outfit for the new Jedi Knight. After playing with neutral tones and classical Jedi robes, I settled on a costume that reflected both Luke and Leia's iconic designs within. I thought the inverted Luke ROTJ top - with black inner lining - was an interesting nod to Rey's darker Palpatine lineage, overwhelmed by her costumes heavy pure white scheme.
This project was also a study into artist Amy Beth Christenson Smith and her style of concept art for the Force Unleashed game franchise. I love the way the artist using lots of sharp, lasso-tool shapes and clear sketchy brushwork - this is something I've tried to practice more as opposed to a smooth blended finish.
